There isn’t a secret to weight loss! In the beginning, the biggest thing that I struggled with was exercising every day. Once I forced myself to do that, I found that it was harder to watch my calories. The most important thing I can tell you with eating is not to deny yourself your cravings, such as chocolate otherwise it could lead to binging. I always keep chocolate in the apartment! LOL Hostess has 100 calorie packs (http://www.hostesscakes.com/100/) and Hershey’s has 100 calorie chocolate bars (http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/100Calorie/). I love Butterfingers so I get those (you can get them from the Candy aisle)!
The biggest thing is to FORCE yourself to be aware of the amount of calories you are taking into your body. If you like soda, drink diet soda or zero(people will say you should just be drinking water but diet soda contains water). Even though caffeine can have side effects it is a stimulant that will help to keep you motivated to do your workouts (this is basically the only drug in diet pills that really works). The only thing I really deny myself is alcohol because it has SO MANY calories! I also do not eat deep fried foods. If I find myself in a stressful situation, I usually jump on my exercise bike to relieve the stress and repeat in my head several times “I am not going to be like that again or I don’t want to be like that anymore.” It’s crazy but I keep a before picture of me in front of me while I exercise and basically yell at it to keep me going. LOL Just make it a habit to look at the Nutritional Facts every time you eat something. You don’t need to weigh things you just need to rationalize. You could try keeping a journal, I do not do this but I have many online buddies who do and says this helps them. My steps: 1) Why are you losing the weight? 2) Set a goal, i.e. lose 20 lbs and/or get into shape 3) Photo journal your progress. Take a photo of yourself for every 5-10 lbs you lose. You will see a difference! 4) Pick on thing to reward yourself with before starting (NOT FOOD), i.e. piece of clothing. 5) Remind yourself every day why you are losing the weight and it’s importance. 6) Force yourself to exercise every day, even if it is only for 10 minutes because it is better than nothing. Plus, over time you will see results. 7) Force yourself to read the nutrition facts of everything you put in your body. This will help you to “rationalize” your portions
Don’t deny yourself cravings, just have smaller portions of it 9) If you over indulge, exercise a bit longer the next day. If you don’t have the time just do your normal routine to stay on track. 10) Utilize your support network (family or online buddies) because it will help you to stay motivated.
